The €25,500 Single-Day High Roller event has always been one of the most popular tournaments in the PokerStars Championship Barcelona. This year, the event was not as large as the one in 2016, but it was still a massive one.
This year’s edition of the €25,500 Single-Day High Roller crowned the British poker player Stephen Chidwick, who took home not only the event’s special spade-shaped trophy, but also a monetary prize of €690,400 which is the largest live cash he has generated in his career so far. Chidwick managed to emerge victorious from the tournament which this year attracted a total player field of 112 entries, who accounted for an overall prize pool amounting to €2,744,000. For the time being, the total live earnings of the UK player are estimated to $8,838,256.
This year, the Single-Day High Roller tournament in Barcelona gathered some of the biggest names in the poker industry, including Daniel Dvoress, Jean-Noel Thorel, Ben Tollerene, etc. PokerStars Team Pro member Igor Kurganov who has just recently been crowned as the winner of the series’ €50,000 Super High Roller tournament, was also one of event’s entries. Despite Kurganov lasted longer than other players, he also did not manage to come close to the cash prizes.
It was Imad Derwiche who became the bubble boy after being eliminated at the 18th position, clearing the way to the monetary prizes of the event. All the 17 players who remained after Derwiche’s departure were guaranteed a monetary portion of the prize pool, with the smallest prize amounting to €43,080.
The relatively short blinds and the 30-second clock saw a fast-paced game and fierce competition right after the money stage of the €25,500 Single-Day High Roller was reached. The pace of the game did not slow down even when the unofficial final table was reached with the elimination of the Spanish poker player Sergi Reixach who got ninth.
The final table of the event was an international one, with seven nationalities represented there. The players got eliminated one by one, until Igor Yaroshevskyy left on the third position, leaving only two players around the final table. The heads-up play saw Brun Kenney and Stephen Chidwick face each other in a short, and yet, fierce final battle for the tournament’s title, which ended with Chidwick being crowned as the winner.
With Stephen Chidwick from the UK emerging victorious from the PokerStars Championship Barcelona €25,500 Single-Day High Roller scooping a prize pool portion of €690,400, it was the American poker pro Bryn Kenney who occupied the runner-up position in the ranking. Kenney was granted with a monetary prize estimated to €466,500. The third place was taken by the Ukrainian Igor Yaroshevskyy, who got a consolation prize of €303,200 for his efforts.
Isaac Haxton got fourth, followed by Quan Zhou from China. Germany’s Jan Eric Schwippert occupied the sixth position in the ranking, while Adrian Mateos from Spain got seventh. The Russian poker player Vladimir Troyanovskiy took the last, eighth position in the final table’s ranking, scooping a €91,940 cash portion of the tournament’s prize pool.
