The Danish professional poker player Gus Hansen has returned to his online poker play career after a 19-month pause. The 42-year-old player, who is also known under the nickname the Great Dane, decided to make a break after having a net loss of about $21 million on Full Tilt Poker over the 8-year duration of his career.
Previously, Hansen used to be a regular high roller and was known as a Full Tilt ambassador. However, he became notorious for his accumulated losses that totalled almost $21 million. He has been known for generating lifetime live tournament winnings of $10 million, but since March 2014, he did not manage to record a cash.
The account of the player in PokerStars displays a career loss of more than $1,300,000.
Still, in spite of the unfortunate series of events in his online cash games career, Hansen is known as one of the most terrific players in live tournaments. He has been famous for winning over $10 million in live poker events and he is even ranked on the second position in his home country’s all-time money list. In addition, he has won the Main Event of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship, as well as the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament.
The Danish poker professional decided to stop playing and stayed away from online poker tables for a period of 19 months. Earlier in August 2016, Hansen joined a high roller stake cash game in Las Vegas’ Bellagio, right along some other poker stars such as Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson and Jennifer Harman. Negreanu himself used his Twitter account to post a picture of Hansen playing a $1,500-$3,000 Mixed Game at the casino several weeks ago.
Despite he has been reported to have taken part in the event, earlier in 2016 Hansen actually hinted that he had been considering to quit poker play for good. The last time the 42-year-old Danish pro was seen playing poker online in January last year. He also quit playing in live poker events over the period, which was not a surprise to anyone, considering the massive losses generated by the player.
Now it seems that Hansen has made a decision to return to his poker career on both live and online poker tables. Last week, Hansen was reported to be back on PokerStars under the account name “broksi”. At this time, he stuck to smaller stakes games, most of which included $200-$400 and $300-$600 FLO8, Triple Draw and Limit Omaha Hi/Lo ones. He managed to win a total of $55,000 while playing those games.
