Tyler Smith managed to conquer the WSOP $565 Pot Limit Omaha re-entry event and became the latest gold bracelet, despite the fact he has lately preferred to spend his time at cash game tables than playing in large poker tournaments.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) $565 Pot Limit Omaha re-entry was the first tournament event Smith took part in a period of almost two years. In order to emerge victorious in the above-mentioned event, he outlasted a massive players field amounting to 3,186 entries. In return, he was granted with the lion’s share of the guaranteed prize pool prize as well as his first WSOP bracelet.
As a result, Tyler Smith is to take home a cash portion of $224,344, as well as his first WSOP bracelet. Until now, he has only had a WSOP Circuit ring which he won in the 2007/2008 WSOP Circuit $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em at Harrah’s New Orleans. At the time he won his first title, he overcome a players field of 284 entries in New Orleans, but now his second title is much sweeter, considering the fact that most people can’t even imagine winning the Pot Limit Omaha event.
The American player said it felt great to win such a tournament, and emerging as the crowned winner was literally surreal.
What made the $565 Pot Limit Omaha re-entry event even harder to win was the fact that the event gathered one of the biggest players fields this summer. Many players have described it on social media as a “PLOssus” event mostly because of its buy-in, the re-entry option and of course, the multiple starting flights. The large number of entries is another reason why the event was not easy to be won. The Pot Limit Omaha re-entry challenged not only the poker skills of the players, but their mental endurance as well, as it was not easy for them to survive and outlast more than 3,100 other players.
However, the extensive experience of Tyler Smith in poker games helped him keep the right state of mind and remain until the last day of the event. He remained calm even when the last day of the event saw seven eliminations in two hours only. At this time, Smith was the chip leader, with only five players remaining around the final table.
It did not take long for Smith to face his last standing opponent Jason Stockfish in a heads-up battle, after Sharaskin left in third place. Heads-up play lasted one hand only, to see Smith emerging as the event’s champion.
With Tyler Smith emerging victorious from the WSOP $565 Pot Limit Omaha re-entry event, winning $224,344, Jason Stockfish remained at the second place, getting a cash portion of $138,655. The third place was occupied by Igor Sharaskin, who was granted with a total of $102,045 for his efforts.
Scott Davies remained fourth, followed by Marek Ohnisko. Jessie Bryant was sixth, while John Dallaire occupied the seventh position in the final table’s ranking. The eighth and ninth place were occupied by Ryan Wince and Yves Kupfermunz, respectively.
