MGM has managed to mark a great achievement in terms of its planned casino in the region of Western Massachusetts. The casino and hotel complex is set to officially open in the autumn of 2018. After it is established, it is expected to become the first gambling destination in the region which is built in Vegas style.
The Las Vegas casino giant is scheduled to hold a ceremony on Wednesday for raising the final steel beam of the resort casino and hotel complex located in Springfield. The project is estimated to approximately $1 billion.
The ceremony that is to celebrate the next phase of the construction of what is set to become the hotel rotunda is expected to be attended by the Mayor Domenic Sarno, the President of MGM Springfield Michael Mathis as well as by a number of representatives of the labour union and state gambling regulatory authorities, including the Massachusetts Gaming Commissioner.
Yesterday, had a meeting with the officials of MGM in order to make an update of the project’s progress. Earlier this month, MGM has updated the information earlier in March, saying that the process of exterior framing and structural steel erection were currently ongoing.
Some of the residents of Springfield have commented on the project, sharing their surprise with the construction speed. Many people have been impatient for the casino to open, especially considering the fact that the opening of the hotel and casino resort would probably result in bringing more jobs and people to the area.
MGM confirmed that the work on its casino and hotel resort project construction proceeded at the beginning of March. The casino and entertainment project, however, is considered to be facing come competition from the joint venture formed by the tribal operators of the two casinos located in the south-eastern part of Connecticut – the Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans. According to some experts, this casino is to be serious competition to the project of MGM, but it would also help Connecticut keep the jobs which are directly and indirectly associated with the gaming industry in the state.
A few weeks ago, MGM revealed that its third casino should be estimated to no less than $500 million. In comparison, the tribes’ casino that is planned to be established in East Windsor would be estimated to between $200 and $300 million. According to MGM, casino and entertainment complex projects would be beneficial for the state, especially in terms of financial inflow to local economy.
The new Western Massachusetts project of the company is not the only one, though. Currently, Wynn is also working on the development of a Boston-area resort estimated to about $2 billion. This project is scheduled to open in 2019.
