Several days ago, Mansion Group, an online sports betting and casino gaming company, made a decision to leave the British gambling market. The company officially surrendered its licence on January 13th, 2023, after operating for almost two decades in the country.
The decision of Mansion Group to cease its operations in the UK comes as a response to the restrictive policy of the Government that has been having a significant impact on the company’s profitability.
As a spokesperson for Mansion Group announced, the company had enjoyed serving British customers for almost 20 years but the regulatory conditions in the country had been getting “increasingly challenging” due to the enhanced scrutiny over the sector that has eventually led to much narrower paths to profitability. Ultimately, that led to the gambling group’s decision to stop offering its services in the UK.
The online sports betting and casino gaming operator was established in 2003. The company, which is headquartered in Gibraltar, has operated three online casino brands in the UK – Casino.com, MansionCasino, and SlotsHeaven – and has managed to establish a strong reputation throughout its years of operation there.
Mansion Group was announced as the major shirt sponsor of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. in the period from 2006 to 2010, while several years later, in 2017, it became the main sponsor of another English Premier League (EPL) football club, A.F.C. Bournemouth.
Gibraltar-Based Gambling Group to Focus on Non-UK Markets and Customers
The announcement that Mansion Group leaves the UK gambling market comes less than a year after the company had decided to stop offering sports betting services and fully focus on its aforementioned casino brands which were extremely powerful and profitable at the time.
Back in 2022, the operator reviewed the local sports betting sector in the conditions of the increasingly restrictive regulations in the UK and eventually decided to stop operating in the sports betting vertical by ceasing its MansionBet brand’s trading. This decision affected the EPL clubs Bristol City F.C., which had to terminate its existing sponsorship agreement with the sports betting operator.
Then, in August 2022, Mansion Group joined forces with Les Ambassadeurs Club, the operator of a high-end casino and club in Mayfair, London, to offer its online casino customers a chance to experience live play at the luxury private club.
After the gambling group made the official announcement of its departure from the regulated UK market and surrendered its operating permit, the company’s chief marketing officer Neil Gallacher lifted the curtain on Mansion Group’s focus in 2023 and beyond. As Mr Gallacher revealed, the online sports betting and casino gaming operator will make an effort to enhance its presence in markets where its operations are already most profitable. The group also intends to explore new markets that may potentially turn into further opportunities for growth and profitability.
The group’s chief marketing officer explained that the UK had been Mansion Group’s core market but the company was now shifting its focus to other markets, hoping to build an excellent relationship with its non-UK customers in the years to come. In the months and years to come, the operator is set to focus its efforts on improving its online casino presence in a number of licensed markets where it is already operational, such as Spain and Ontario.
