FanDuel has announced that it inked a partnership contract with the sports data company Opta Sports. The news of the deal comes right ahead of the fantasy sports operator’s plans for a UK launch of its football product in early August 2016.
Under the terms of the agreement between the two parties, Opta which is currently part of Perform Group is to provide live performance statistics for the fantasy football platform of FanDuel that is expected to be officially released later this summer.
The Director of Internatinal Marketing of FanDuel Karol Corcoran commented on the newly-signed partnership, saying that the entire team of the company was pleased to be working in collaboration with Opta Sports as they are a widely-known leader in their field. According to her, the experience of Opta in the field would be beneficial for their live game experience.
Mrs. Corcoran also shared that the statistics provided by Opta played a critical part in FanDuel’s unique scoring system, and their had spent quite a while developing the product that would suit the UK football fans’ needs best.
The product is developed by the UK-based team that was responsible for creating FanDuel US product. The company has announced that the platform will be accessible on both desktop and mobile devices. In addition, it will be focused on the UK market and its customers, so the Premier League will be primarily featured. Further expansion of the company’s product offerings on the territory of Europe is expected, too.
FanDuel has managed to accumulate a customer base of more than 6 million registered users on the territory of the US and Canada in a period of seven years. Its application has been downloaded 4 million times.
Now, the fantasy sports operator has laid its eyes on Europe, especially considering the fact that DraftKings – its major competitor in North America – launched their services in the UK last season. The latter also managed to ink several remarkable deals with the football clubs of Arsenal, Liverpool and Watford.
So, in May 2016 FanDuel announced that a UK launch of its products was planned for August. For some time, no official statement on the matter was made, due to the fact that the deal was still tentative. Now, the licence status of the company has been changed from pending to active after the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) granted it with a regulatory approval. To date, the daily fantasy sports operator is fully licensed to operate remote gambling software.
