Some bookmakers in the UK are suggesting that Queen Elizabeth II may abdicate in 2020, although a second Scottish Independence referendum is twice as likely, according to the latest odds offered by bookies for the upcoming 2020.
Many of the leading British sports betting companies have revealed a range of interesting predictions for what is to come in UK’s politics and entertainment in the folowing months. Coral, one of the largest bookies in the UK, is now offering odds of 5-1 that a Scottish Independence referendum will take place after the Scottish National Party won the most votes in the General Election earlier this month. Commenting the New Year Specials, Coral’s John Hill explained that odds have shifted due the “strong support” from the public for a new referendum.
Meanwhile, the bookie is also offering interesting Royal odds for next year. According to the bookmaker, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will announce they are expecting another child in 2020. The couple’s first child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, was born in May this year and Coral is now offering even odds for a new baby announcement in 2020. The bookie also revealed odds of 2-1 on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announcing a new member of the royal family. According to William Hill, another leading bookmaker in the UK, the chances that Megan and Harry will have a second baby in 2020 are 6-4.
However, Queen Elizabeth II is unlikely to abdicate despite recent speculations in the media. She is currently the longest reigning monarch in British history after ascending the throne in 1952 at the age of 25. According to the odds offered by Coral, there is a 10-1 chance that the Queen will abdicate in 2020. William Hill, on the other hand, offers 2-1 odds that the UK will have a new monarch in 2020.
In addition, Coral also offers 4-1 odds that Donald Trump will leave office via impeachment and conviction or resignation. The odds for Boris Johnson to be replaced as Prime Minister are 8-1 and for a General Election in 2020, the odds are 16-1. Meanwhile, the odds for Kim Kardashian to become US President before 2041 are 500-1.
Bookies’ Favourite for the New James Bond Actor
One of the most exciting things to bet on is the actor who will play 007 as it is expected that the 25th instalment of the franchise, No Time to Die, is expected to be Daniel Craig’s last. The question has been lingering for years, although names such as Idris Elba and recently, Lashana Leach, have emerged as possible replacements for Craig. It may be time for a little diversity, some analysts believe, adding that a black or female actor might be just what the James Bond franchise needs.
Most people, however, apparently believe that filmmakers’ choice will be more traditional. Bookmakers in the UK also seem to be sharing this opinion – Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, The Bodyguard), Tom Hardy (Venom, Mad Max: Fury Road), and Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) have been suggested replacements for the iconic role. However, bookies seem to have their favourite and this is Sam Heughan, a 39-year-old Scottish actor known for his portrayal of Jamie Fraser in Outlander.
Coral and Ladbrokes currently offer odds for Heughan becoming the next James Bond at 5-2, followed by Madden with 5-1. Paddy Power, on the other hand, offers odds of 17-10 for Sam Heughan. The bookmaker’s other alternatives are Tom Hiddleston (13-5), James Norton (6-1), Jack Lowden (6-1), and Michael Fassbender (13-2).
