Tom Middleton emerged victorious from the 2016 edition of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Blackpool Main Event. He managed to scoop not only the Main Event’s trophy, but also a cash portion of £56,255 after a deal was reached between the last three standing opponents.
The Main Event of the GUKPT Blackpool featured a buy-in of £1,100 as well as a guaranteed prize pool estimated to £200,000. The No-Limit Hold’em event accumulated a players base of 251 entrants, of which only 17 reached the final Day 3 of the Main Event.
It took the players less than three hours before the final table was formed. It was Andrew Duffy who became the first player who left the table after being eliminated by the dominating hand of Pete Mason. A number other players soon joined him to the sidelines, including Ben Jones, Simon Zach, Paul McTaggart and Satpaul Sidhu. With only twelve players left around the table, the eliminations went on until three more players hit the rail and the final table was formed.
At this stage of the game, it was Tom Middleton who was the chip leader with a total of 1,128,000 in chips. He was followed by Tom Hall, with 1,102,500 in chips. Jeff Kimber was third, holding 824,000 in chips.
The first player to leave the final table of eight was Pete Mason. The rest of the players were eliminated one by one until only three of them were left around the table – Middleton, Hall and Kellett. The three of them decided to put the end to the tournament by striking a three-way deal and dividing the remaining prize pool in three cash portions. Middleton was proclaimed as the event’s winner and scooped the tournament’s title and the largest cash portion of £56,255.
With Tom Middleton emerging as winner, the runner-up position was occupied by Tom Hall, who took a prize of £52,990 reflecting a three-way deal reached between the last three players. Richard Kellett remained third, taking home a cash portion of £36,825. The fourth position in the ranking was occupied by Jeff Kimber, who was granted with a prize of £18,750.
