The Spanish poker player Luis Rodriguez Cruz emerged victorious from the partypoker WPT Main Event Nottingham, taking home a massive prize of £200,000 as well as a $15,000 seat at the WPT Tournament of Champions. After surviving the five days of epic tournament action and outlasting all his opponents, Cruz added his name to the list of all winners in the WPT series, becoming a member of the Champions Club at the WPT.
The last day of the WPT Main Event Nottingham started at fast pace, which led to quick eliminations. The final table was formed by the last six standing opponents, but it did not took them long to eliminate the first player. After only one circle of the game, Alex Lindop became the first one to depart from the final table as he did not manage to overbear the hand of Luis Cruz. Lindop left the game, scooping a prize of £40,000.
With only five players left around the event’s final table, it did not take long for one of them to drop out of the competition. Seamus Cahill was the next to leave, after he did not manage to beat the hand of Chris Yong. Quickly after that, Maxime Swennen followed him by hitting the rail on the fourth position, grabbing a prize of £67,080.
With only three players left at the final table, it was Christopher Yong who held the chip lead at the time. He kept his lead over Cruz when Nabil Cardoso went bust and entered the fierce heads-up battle with a chip lead ratio of 2:1. Unfortunately for him, Cruz did not allow this to continue long enough. After he made a superb call of 700,000 chips, Yong’s lead was seriously affected. Only several hands later, Luis Rodriguez Cruz emerged victorious from the battle, being granted with the WPT Main Event trphy, a $15,000-worth WPT ToC seat and a cash prize of £200,000.
With Luis Cruz occupying the first position in the ranking and grabbing the massive tournament’s prize, the second place was taken by Christopher Yong after a fierce heads-up battle. Yong got a consolation prize estimated to £135,000. Nabil Cardoso remained third, getting a cash portion of £90,000.
The fourth place in the ranking was taken by Maxime Swennsen, who won £67,080. Seamus Cahill, who remained of the fifth position, scooped a cash portion of £50,000. He was followed by Alex Lindop who occupied the sixth position in the ranking and got a prize amounting to £40,000.
