Jerry Monroe became a three-time WSOP Circuit gold ring winner after taking down the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans $1,675 Main Event. Apart from adding a third WSOP Circuit ring to his collection by climbing on top of the final table ranking, Monroe also scooped a prize pool portion amounting to $208,184 and a seat into the season-ending Global Casino Championship (GCC).
The 41-year-old player was the last survivor of the 677-entry field of the Circuit’s Main Event which took place at the Harrah’s New Orleans, winning a second main event title. He also managed to generate the largest live cash in his career so far, boosting his total live earnings to $621,587. Before winning the Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event, Jerry Monroe had won two other WSOP Circuit gold rings, with the first one being scooped in the IP Biloxi Main Event back in 2011.
Harrah’s New Orleans was the last stop in the latest edition of the WSOP Circuit. A total of twelve ring events, including the Main Event, were included in the live poker events schedule, with one Ladies Event and two Seniors Events also featured. The $1,675 buy-in Main Event gathered 677 entrants, who boosted its $750,000 guarantee to a total of $1,015,500. Only the top 72 participants in the competition got paid, with the cash portions starting from $2,843 for the 72nd position.
Final Day of Play and Final Table Ranking
Only 13 players returned for the final day of the competition, with their eyes set on the largest cash portion of the prize pool and one of the last gold rings of the season. Just 15 minutes after the start, the number of players was reduced, with seats emptying one by one.
At the time when the final table was formed, the indisputable favourites to win the title were John Skinner and Darren Martin, who eventually took the runner-up position. The two of them were the ones winning the majority of the pots, or at least until Skinner was eliminated by Martin at the fourth place. Jerry Monroe was at the bottom of the chip counts at the start of three-handed play.
He, however, managed to survive long enough to eliminate Michael Cohen at the third place and face Martin in a heads-up play. Monroe entered a winning streak of eight consecutive hands and succeeded to even out his chips with Martin until eventually eliminating him at the second place.
With Jerry Monroe occupying the first place in the ranking, taking home a cash prize of $208,184, it was Darren Martin who ended the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event as a runner-up. Martin was granted $128,816 for his efforts. The third place in the ranking was taken by Michael Cohen, who bagged a $94,482 prize.
John Skinner remained on the fourth place, followed by Justin Donato on the fifth. The sixth position in the ranking was taken by Hugh Cullen, while Benjamin Mintz got seventh. The eighth and ninth positions were occupied by Scott Horvath and Donnell Dais, respectively, with Donnel getting a prize pool portion estimated at $19,477.
