This week, the British gambling company Metropolitan Gaming announced that it will sell its South Africa-based Emerald Resorts and Casino.
Metropolitan Gaming, which currently operates a total of 11 casinos in its domestic market in the UK, as well as in South Africa and Egypt, has made the decision to dispose of the aforementioned property in a move aimed at helping it focus on further growth opportunities in other markets. The company has also shared hope that it will be able to make its business more efficient by providing more backing behind the operations of its core markets.
In order to do that, the British gambling operator needed to open a new chapter in its business and chose to do that with the sale of its interest in the Emerald Resort and Casino – a gambling venue situated in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa. As the company further revealed, its stake in the gambling property was taken over by the premier local casino business Tsogo Sun and its subsidiaries.
By leaving the South African casino market, Metropolitan Gaming is expected to become more capable to focus on other markets, where it is already present – the ones of the UK and Egypt – and consolidate its power. A year ago, the company acquired 11 venues from the global gambling giant Caesars Entertainment, and in 2022, the company decided to strengthen its operations in its core UK market by taking over Park Lane Club situated in central London.
Currently, Metropolitan Gaming owns eight casino venues in the UK and three casinos in Egypt. The operator has previously confirmed that it continues its work on the renovation and rebranding of the aforementioned Park Lane Club.
British Gambling Company Runs 11 Casino Venues in the UK and Egypt
At the time when the British gambling operator revealed that it was to dispose of the Emerald Resorts and Casino in South Africa, its chief executive officer Michael Silberling confirmed that the company is willing to focus on its core markets. He noted that Metropolitan Gaming has realised the importance of enhancing its presence in the key markets for its business and focusing its growth strategy on the venues that bring it the largest profit.
This was exactly why Mr Silberling described the deal to add Park Lane Club to the company’s portfolio in the UK as an excellent choice and shared that the property was likely to generate great returns for the operator.
Metropolitan Gaming has parted ways with its employees at South Africa-based Emerald Resort and Casino after thanking them for their loyalty, professionalism, and hard work, as well as the resilience they demonstrated following the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
For the time being, Metropolitan Gaming is among the leading casino operators in the UK. As mentioned above, it operates a total of eight properties there – Empire Casino, Metropolitan Mayfair, Park Lane Club, Rendezvous Brighton, Manchester 235, The Sportsman, Alea Nottingham, and Alea Glasgow. The three casinos it operates in Egypt are London Club Cairo, Ramses Casino, and Kings and Queens.
