Online casino and sports betting operator MoPlay has ceased its operations on the territory of the UK following the suspension of its parent company’s gambling license by the country’s gambling regulatory body.
Last week, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) confirmed that it decided to suspend the gambling license of Addison Global under section 120(1)(b) of the UK Gambling Act 2005. The British gambling watchdog acted on suspicion that the gambling company had violated its licensing rules.
The suspension means that Addison Global is not legalised to offer gambling services via its MoPlay brand or any other website, as it does not have a valid operating license in the UK. At first, after the parent company’s license suspension, the MoPlay website informed its visitors that the company was only processing withdrawals, and the other functions that had previously been available for users were suspended.
Now, the message has been changed and visitors of the website are not informed that no more bets and any other gambling activity could be taken by MoPlay. The operator also suggests to customers to contact its Solutions team via email in case they have any questions.
The MoPlay brand was rolled out by Addison Global in 2018 and has operated as the company’s flagship brand since then. Previously, the brand has been known for its official sponsorships with Manchester United FC and Watford FC.
UKGC Suspended Parent Company Addison Global’s Gambling Licence
Last week, the major regulator of the UK gambling sector revealed that it is to suspend the license of Addison Global Limited. The decision was made by the UKGC only a day after it became clear that the company was not able to remain in line with the rules surrounding sufficient investment support. The UK Gambling Commission has revealed that it came to its knowledge that the company is facing certain financial difficulties because of which it is currently unable to process withdrawals.
As Casino Guardian already reported, the operations of Addison Global were reviewed by the gambling watchdog under sections 116 and 118 of the country’s Gambling Act 2005. At the time when the license suspension was announced, the UKGC said that licensing conditions violation is suspected as the main reason for the suspension.
Currently, the gambling operator is considered unsuitable to offer its services to UK customers under the provisions of section 120(1)(d) of the 2005 Gambling Act. The loss of its UK license would make it impossible for MoPlay to continue offering its services to local customers. However, the gambling operator is permitted to give its existing customers limited access to the website so that they are given the chance to withdraw any funds that may be available in their accounts. MoPlay’s parent company is also allowed to settle any outstanding bets and make respective payouts that are due to players.
