Smain Mamouni emerged as the crowned champion in 2017 PMU.fr WPT DeepStacks Marrakech MAD 13,200 Main Event, taking home a total of MAD 1,000,000. This year’s tournament gathered the largest field of the series outside America – a total player field of 433 entries, who accounted for an overall prize pool of MAD 4,949,600.
Apart from the monetary prize he scooped for winning the event, Smain Mamouni also got a €2,000 package for the forthcoming WPT DeepStacks Final that is to take place in January in Berlin.
2017 PMU.fr WPT DeepStacks Marrakech poker festival kicked off at the Casino de Marrakech, which is currently known as the largest and most popular casino in the region. As mentioned above, this year the Main Event gathered a record number of players, all of whom were overcome by Smain Mamouni.
Final Day of the Event
The final day of the event saw only 16 players return to action. The gameplay run quickly, with them being eliminated one by one. At the time when the first play of the day had come, there were only ten players remaining. With only three players being left in the game, Smain Mamouni was the short stack. However, he managed to get back into the game.
In fact, it was Mamouni who started the last day of the event as the chip leader, to defeat the Spanish poker player Pablo Redrado a few hours later in a heads-up battle and emerge victorious from the event. At the time when the heads-up play began, Pablo Redrado had a slight lead over Mamouni. It took the latter only half an hour before he emerged as the winner of the event.
The victory helped the French poker player Smain Mamouni boost his total live earnings to more than $233,512. The first place in the tournament also brought the player his largest live cash so far in his career. Before that, Mamouni’s largest live winning amounted to $33,859 and was generated in 2015 when he ranked third in the WPT Amsterdam €1,500 NLHE – WPT Big Stack.
Final Table Ranking
With France’s Smain Mamouni emerging on the first place of the 2017 PMU.fr WPT DeepStacks Marrakech MAD Main Event taking home a massive prize of MAD 1,000,000, it was the Spanish poker player Pablo Redrado who remained at the runner-up position, for a prize pool cash portion of MAD 700,000. Another Spanish – Daniel C – was third, taking a prize of MAD 450,000 for his efforts.
Anas Belatik from France ranked at the fourth position of the ranking, followed by Anthony Cruz, who scooped a guaranteed prize of MAD 245,000. Julien Lemonnier remained sixth, while Louis Linard occupied the seventh position. Damien Lhommeau was last in the final table ranking, remaining at eighth place with a prize of MAD 132,000.
