On Wednesday night, two online poker legends – Viktor Blom and Ben Tollerene – faced each other in a heads-up battle for winning partypoker’s Powerfest #254: Championship Event: $3M Gtd Super High Roller.
The Super High Roller tournament of the partypoker’s online Powerfest series started on Tuesday, to end with a spectacular heads-up clash between two of the best contemporary online poker players, with Ben Tollerene winning the event.
The Super High Roller event of the online Powerfest series of partypoker gathered a total players field of 127 entries who all paid the $25,500 buy-in in order to join the tournament. The latter also offered a massive $3-million guaranteed prize pool, which expanded to $3,175,000.
At the end of the first day of the event, it was Sam “DeanMalenko” Greenwood who emerged as chip leader of the 16 players who proceeded to Day 2 of the $25,500 Super High Roller.
Second Day and Final Table
The second day of the event saw the initial players field of 16 soon be reduced to only eight players who formed the final table of the Super High Roller Tournament. Apart from Tollerene, Blom and Greenwood, Day 2 of the event saw a number of other poker stars, such as Fedor Hoz and Jason Koon, return to action. Unfortunately for Koon, he got eliminated before the final table of the Super High Roller tournament was set.
At the time when the final table was formed, it was still Sam Greenwood who held the chip lead, with Viktor Blom and Ben Tollerene being in the middle of the pack at positions four and five, respectively, with chip stacks of very close value.
One of the other stars at the final table – Fedor Holz – hit the rail relatively early, being eliminated in seventh position and winning a guaranteed prize pool portion estimated to $185,420. Greenwood, on the other hand, failed to keep his positions. In spite of the fact that he got to the final table as chip leader, he did not managed to get to the heads-up battle and ranked third, scooping a $338,722 cash portion of the guaranteed prize pool.
His elimination marked the start of the heads-up clash which saw two of the contemporary online poker legends to compete for the victory. At the time when the heads-up play kicked off, Ben Tollerene was the one who got a slight chip lead. He took advantage of this and managed to win a number of pots preflop, and some time later he held a massive 5-1 chip lead over his rival.
Viktor Blom, however, had no intention of giving up. He put all his efforts to come back in the game, but Tollerene maintained his lead eventually to emerge victorious from the Super High Roller tournament.
With him wining the Powerfest Super High Roller title, Tollerene got a cash prize of $846,722, while Viktor Blom remained at the runner-up position, winning a total of $529,272.
