The Romanian poker player Alexandru Papazian emerged victorious from Event #60 of this year’s edition of the World Series of Poker. Apart from winning the title of the 2017 WSOP $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold’em and scooping a massive monetary prize for outlasting the rest of the event’s entries, Papazian also won the first WSOP gold bracelet in his career.
As mentioned above, the Romanian was granted with the lion’s share of the guaranteed prize pool, taking home a monetary prize estimated to $888,888. This was the six WSOP cash so far in his career, which helped him boost his career winnings to a total of $903,495. Alexandru Papazian’s best live cash so far amounts to $1,381,499, and his total live earnings are estimated to $2,811,492 to date. His latest victory as well as the WSOP bracelet made the Romanian the leader in his country’s career tournament earnings list.
This year’s edition of the $888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold’em event gathered a player field of 8,120 paid entries. Together, they accumulated a massive guaranteed prize pool, estimated to $6,489,504. However, only 1,119 players managed to finished in the money and received a portion of the guaranteed prize pool.
Alexandry Papazian routed most of the eight-handed final table of the event towards the end of Day 3 action, and prepared himself for the Day 4 battle against the German poker player Kilian Kramer. Day 3 of the event saw a total of 28 poker players return to claim the first-place prize.
At the time when the official final table was formed, it was Kilian Kramer who got the chip lead. Later, it was only Kramer who survived the push of the Romanian to the top, entering a brief heads-up battle with him and, eventually, finished as a runner-up. This was the eighteenth time when Kramer finished in the cash in the World Series of Poker, boosting his lifetime live tournament earnings to a total of $1,790,695.
The heads-up play between Papazian and Kramer on Day 4 of the event was a short one. Kramer lost approximately 50% of his chips in the previous hand, which gave a considerable advantage to Papazian, who was soon able to complete the hand.
With Alexandru Papazian ranking first and scooping the first-place prize of $888,888 as well as the WSOP gold bracelet, Kilian Kramer ranked on the second position, taking home a monetary prize estimated to $463,888. The third place at the final table of the 2017 WSOP 888 Crazy Eights No-Limit Hold’em was taken by Harry Lodge for a total of $344,888.
Ionnis Angelou Konstas remained fourth, followed by Kames Cappucci who occupied the fifth position in the ranking. The sixth place was taken by Vlad Darie, while Michael Tureniec and Guillaume Diaz occupied the seventh and eighth positions in the ranking.
