US poker player Jose Montes managed to add another trophy to his collection, after he was crowned as a winner of the $1,500 WPTDeepStacks Main Event. Montes emerged victorious from the event which took place at Maryland Live! Casino and took home a cash portion of $95,032. The cash prize also included a $3,000 package to the Season 4 WPTDeepStacks Championship event.
In order to get to the first place in the competition and win the largest share of the guaranteed prize pool which amounted to a total of $439,780, the player managed to outlast a field of 338 entries. Although the cash portion won at the Main Event did not surpass his best one so far, estimated to $352,669, the prize boosted the overall live earnings of Montes which amounted to $1,047,969 before him joining the competition.
Commenting on his victory, Jose Montes said winning felt really great and shared he had got lucky on a number of occasions.
The US player joined the WPTDeepStacks Main Event, which featured a buy-in of $1,500 almost at the close of the registration process on Day 1B. At the time when the day ended, Montes held a promising stack of 141,500. Then, on the second day of the event, he had his ups and downs but still managed to get to the final table of the Main Event, holding a chip stack amounting to 647,000 in chips, which took him to the sixth place on the leaderboard.
However, Montes proved that he had higher ambitions than remaining on the sixth position of the ranking.
Only a number of hands after the start of the final table of the WPTDeepStacks Main Event, he managed to doubled his stack and then eliminated Joe Frampus in the eighth position. With the players being eliminated one by one, the competition around the event’s final table rose immensely.
At the time when there were only four players left, Jose Montes doubled his stack once again and took the lead. After Justin Liberto got bust in fourth place, Montes got himself troubled with the competition of Karim Bevans and Nicholas Verderamo. Karim Bevans, who got the chip lead at the beginning of final table game, managed to increase his stack and get the lead but that did not discourage Montes although that the latter had the shortest stack at this time. He managed to pull himself together and regain the chip lead, eliminating Bevans in third position.
Montes entered the heads-up play with a big lead, so it was not hard for him to soon emerge victorious from the competition and be crowned as the $1,500 WPTDeepStacks Main Event winner.
With Jose Montes on the first place, scooping the lion’s share of the guaranteed prize pool, Nicholas Verderamo remained on the runner-up position, taking home a cash portion estimated to $66,583. The third place in the ranking was occupied by Karim Bevans, who was granted with a prize of $42,835.
Justin Liberto ranked fourth, followed by Brett Apter, who got a guaranteed prize pool portion amounting to $21,065. The sixth place was taken by Elia Ahmadian for $17,459, and Sandy Nyunt remained seventh. The eighth and ninth positions were occupied by Joe Frampus and James St. Hilaire, who got $11,874 and $9,499 for their efforts, respectively.
