UK-based Aspers Group, which currently operates as a joint venture between The Aspinall Family and Crown Limited Australia, is to proceed with its intentions to construct a large waterfront casino located in Southampton. The plans of the company were revealed to public after the Group managed to win a case brought to court by its rival Global Gaming Ventures.
Currently, Aspers Group operates in a number of destinations across the territory of the UK, including London, Newcastle, Northampton and Milton Keynes. Last year, in March, it was officially granted with a licence to build a huge casino facility in Southampton. A number of rivals rushed in several years of hard competition for winning the casino facility licence, including Global Gaming Ventures, Grosvenor Group and Kymeria, but it was Aspers that got the licence in the end.
The new gambling venue was expected to create around 200 new jobs in the region and be a great success after it is officially launched. The super casino project in Southampton is part of the Royal Pier Waterfront development which is aimed at making the city of Southampton more attractive to both its residents and visitors and to bring the economic environment there to a new level.
As mentioned above, this would be the fifth casino facility of the brand after its Aspers Stratford Casino London, Aspers Casino Northampton, Newcastle Aspers Casino and Aspers Milton Keynes. The new venue is expected to feature more than 150 slot machines and 30 roulette and blackjack tables, as well as a number of dining areas, bars and live entertainment options.
The casino operating licence, however, was challenged by Global Gaming Ventures that decided to take the city’s Council to court, after presenting an alternative blueprint for building a casino venue located at the Hammerson shopping development. Global Gaming Ventures opposed the licence issued to Aspers, stating that the project had already started, while the new licence holder had not been granted with a planning permission yet.
The objection of Global Gaming Ventures, which has recently established the enormous Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds and has revealed plans to open a similar facility in Bath, was rejected by the High Court in favour of Aspers. So, the latter’s casino project in Southampton is expected to be underway any time soon.
