SBIF Announces Its SBI Action Plan Objectives for 2017

The Sports Betting Integrity Forum, also known under the abbreviation SBIF, published the 2017 edition of its Sport and Sport Betting Integrity Action Plan (SBI Action Plan) less than a week after it celebrated the successful delivery of the last year’s one.

The aim of the SBIF is to now to use that progress as a base in order to build a continuous collaborative approach in terms of sports, betting operators, law enforcement and prevention of harmful effects of gambling. The Sports Betting Integrity Forum is also focused on reducing the corruption related to sports betting and has been willing to add new priorities and include relevant updates on the matter.

The SBI Action Plan outlines the country’s approach to face risks related to sports and sports betting in order to ensure safe betting process. As Casino Guardian has previously reported, the SBIF published its first Action Plan in 2015, and the one published in 2016 was announced as a great success by the Forum.

The main purpose of the SBI Action Plan, declared by SBIF itself, includes taking care of the prevention of corruption when it comes to sporting events and sports betting markets and also, preventing individuals from organising and taking part in corrupt sports events.

Now, a total of ten objectives and actions have been included in the 2017 edition of the SBI Action Plan.

  • Action 1 – Supported by the UKGC – The Forum plans to continue the review of the terms of reference of the Sports Betting Intelligence Unit in order to provide effective, risk-based approach for support. The action is due by December 2017.
  • Action 2 – Supported by SBIF – SBIF plans to support various workshops in order to make good practice more popular, as well as to promote sharing information and knowledge between stakeholder groups. This action is due by the end of 2017.
  • Action 3 – Supported by DCMS – The third objective is related to finalising the SBIF funding in order to back the effective delivery of the SBI Action Plan. The action is due by July 2017.
  • Action 4 – Supported by SBIF – SBIF is also aimed at ensuring that DCMS is to implement the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) into the country’s legalisation to make sure that the betting integrity strategy of the UK is delivered properly. This objective is actually ongoing.
  • Action 5 – Supported by SBIF – The Forum is also aimed at providing collective clarity of the measures related to information and knowledge sharing. The objective is due by December 2017.
  • Action 6 – Supported by SBIF – Over 2017, the SBIF will be engaged with the assessment of all major obstacles and threats to sports and sports betting activities. The action is due until the end of the year.
  • Action 7 – Supported by UKGC – The Forum also revealed that one of its major objectives will be working in collaboration with the Convention Secretariat and Follow-up Committee of the Council of Europe to represent the country’s interest. The active is ongoing.
  • Action 8 – Supported by Sports Betting Group (SBG) – The Sports Governing Bodies are aimed at undertaking a best practice review in order to make sure that sports regulatory frameworks run properly. The objective is due by December 2017.
  • Action 9 – Supported by SBG – SBIF is aimed at expanding the reach of the SBG to sports governing bodies. This action is also due until the end of the year.
  • Action 10 – Supported by Letting Operators: Lead TBC – Also, the Forum has set an objective of developing a strategy to engage with betting operators of small and medium scale in order to make good practice more common and raise operators’ awareness. The action is due by December 2017.
