Poker rooms in Nevada may have faced a tough year, but the state’s market had a steady performance over 2016. The Nevada Gaming Control Board released some statistics, revealing the earnings of the state’s casinos generated over 2016.
According to a recent research of the University of Nevada Las Vegas Center for Gaming Research, until the middle of December 2016, a total of 73 poker rooms with a combined 661 tables existed on the territory of the state. That was reported as the lowest number of poker rooms in the state since the first 58 were opened back in 2003. The number of live tables was also affected, being the smallest one since the 484 live tables in 2004.
According to the local officials, the gambling revenue generated by the casinos in the state increased by 1.3% over 2016 in comparison to the previous year’s result. As revealed by Nevada Gaming Control Board, state’s casinos generated more than $11.0 billion over the last calendar year, with slots machines accounting for 63.6% of the overall revenue.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board also announced the poker revenue of generated in the state in 2016 by month.
In January 2016, the poker revenue suffered a 2.85% decrease to $9.5 million. Then, in February, it increased by 5.44% and reached $8.98 million. Another, and yet a minimum decline followed in March 2016, with the poker revenue being $9.68 million. The poker revenue of the states’ casinos amounted to $8.57 million in April, boosted by a 0.86% increase, but in May they were hit by a sharp decline of 13.92% and reached $8.88 million.
June and July were two months of consecutive increase, of 1.88% and 7.63%, respectively. In June, the poker revenue amounted to $16.14 million, while in July it was estimated to 12.33 million. In August 2016, the results faced another decline, falling by 3.23% to $8.24 million. In September the revenue posted an increase of 1.47% to $8.44 million, while in October and November other, and yet, small declines were registered. The poker revenue in October amounted to a total of $8.71 million after a decrease of 0.23%. In November 2016, 0.65% decline to $8.92 million was registered. A small increase of 0.09% in poker revenue to $9.37 million was posted in December.
As mentioned above, table games in the state of Nevada as a whole suffered a blow in 2016. The revenue generated from baccarat, mini-baccarat, three-card poker and pai gow declined over the year. Still, blackjack, which is considered as the most-played game across the state of Nevada, registered a 4% increase in revenue to $1.14 billion. And of course, slots machines were once again the main driver of the states gambling market growth in 2014, with revenue increase of 2.3% to $7.16 billion.
On the other hand, the reported earnings of the casino industry in the state of Nevada amounted to $25.23 billion, including the earnings from hotel rooms, dining and beverage, gaming entertainment, gaming win, etc. The gaming win alone for the last fiscal year amounted to $10.76 billion, which basically means it accounts for more than 42% of the total revenues generated in the state.
