The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) officially revealed it has initiated a review that is to be carried out under the Gambling Act 2005’s section 116. The major regulatory body of Great Britain also shared that it has made a decision to suspend operating licence of Light Gaming Limited No.030664-N-311869-005 over the time of the review.
The decision to initiate and commence such a revision, and then to suspend the above-mentioned operating licence comes after the UK Gambling Commission suspected certain irregularities.
The country’s regulatory authority revealed there were some suspicions that a certain licensed activity is currently being or has previously been processed in a way that was not in line with the licensing objectives described in section 120(1)(a) of the Gambling Act 2005. According to the UK Gambling Commission, in such case the holder of the operating licence is not suitable to properly carry out the activities included in the licence.
The decision for Light Gaming Limited’s operating licence suspension is to immediately take effect. In addition, the suspension will take effect until the UK Gambling Commission is ready with the operating licence review. The regulatory authority is the only one that can lift the suspension with a further notice before the review is completed.
Currently, the UKGC is the body which is focused on regulating the UK gambling industry in a reliable, trustworthy, transparent and accountable manner. The Commission focuses its major resources on the issues and gambling operators which could put the licensing objectives in greatest danger.
Most recently, the UK Gambling Commission has been primarily focused on the close monitoring and regulation of a number of issues in the local industry. For a few months now the regulatory body has been engaged with the problems associated with fixed-odds betting terminals in different parts of the country. Only a few days ago, the Commission joined forces with Police Scotland to help police officers conduct inspections of licensed gambling premises. In addition, one of the top priorities of the the Commission is increasing the awareness of betting outlets’ staff on the risks of gambling-related crimes.
The Great Britain’s regulatory body has been constantly putting efforts in making the society more aware of the problems associated with gambling activities and of course, in ensuring adequate protection of children and more vulnerable individuals on the territory of the country.
