Former world number one tennis player Boris Becker has joined the elite cluster of partypoker ambassadors, the online poker brand has announced. Thus, the German tennis legend has added another important task to his agenda. In addition to mentoring and coaching tennis super star Novak Djokovic, Becker will also be among the active promoters of the partypoker brand.
Much is known about the German’s accomplishments on the tennis court but his love for the game of poker is of greater interest here. Becker has played in a number of the world’s most prestigious poker tournaments over the years, scoring in-the-money finishes in some of those. His all-time live tournament earnings currently amount to $111,417.
Becker collected his largest live tournament cash of $40,855 back in 2009, when he finished 40th in the WPT 7th Annual Five Star World Poker Classic $25,5000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship Event. In later years, he has also cashed in several EPT events.
To celebrate the enlistment of its latest elite ambassador, partypoker has launched the special Beat The Ace tennis-themed promotion, more information of which could be found on the online poker room’s official website.
As an ambassador, Becker will take part in different partypoker-branded tournaments, both online and live ones. The tennis legend will take part in the £550 buy-in partypoker MILLIONS tournament with a guaranteed first-place prize of £1 million. The event is set to take place at multiple venues around the UK and across the globe; Dusk Till Dawn Poker & Casino Nottingham being the main host venue.
Commenting on his new role as a poker ambassador, Becker said that he will certainly deploy his competitive bone on the felt, just as he had done on the tennis court. The tennis star further noted that he was excited to be joining partypoker and to be able to play against players from around the world, enter various online and live tournaments, and test his skills and perseverance.
partypoker Group Head Tom Waters commented that they are happy to have Becker and expressed certainty his “mental strength and desire” will make him a feared opponent at the poker table. The official also revealed that the online poker brand will be expanding its footprint into the German online gaming market next year and that the famous former tennis player will be their ambassador in said market.
Becker has not taken the ambassador role for the first time. Years ago, he acted as such for PokerStars. He joined the online poker room’s Team SportStars back in 2007. One of his main responsibilities as an ambassador was to take part in EPT events around Europe. Becker parted ways with PokerStars in May 2013.
The former tennis player has not been the only newly enlisted member of partypoker’s brand ambassadors club. UK poker star Sam Trickett and German poker professional Jan-Peter Jachtmann have also just joined the elite company.
