The European subsidiary of Sega Amusements International revealed that it plans to open the first Family Entertainment Centre (FEC) at Hatfield, north of London. The Centre is to be established under the Prizezone brand, which will feature 50 games and various pieces of equipment. The venue will also become home of a retail store for toys and gifts of the Sega and Sonic brands.
The company revealed its intentions at the IAAPA trade show which takes place this week in Florida. Sega Amusements International shared that the new venue would be the first one of a planned Family Entertainment Centres chain branded under Sega. In addition, the company explained that the chain of FECs venues might not necessarily be located on the territory of the UK only, but that the chain would surely provide its customers with cashless payment opportunity.
The managing director of Sega Paul Williams revealed that the company had already chosen the Intercard brand to implement the cashless option under the terms of a partnership agreement that had already been inked between the two companies. This would be carried out through the European branch of Intercard, called Electrocoin.
Gabrino Stergides of Electrocoin commented on the Sega’s plans for the establishment of a FECs chain by opening the first Family Entertainment Centre at Harfield location, which is mostly associated with the Galleria shopping mall. Mr. Stergides also expressed his gratitude that Sega had chosed Intercard for its partner and said that the debit card’s specialist reliability, great reputation, secure transactions and innovative technological solutions had been exactly what Sega had been particularly enthusiastic about.
Currently, Intercard specialises in offering debit card payment options in the international regulated gambling markets. Sega’s Mr. Williams shared that his company chose to work in collaboration with Intercard after reviewing and evaluating a great number of card payment systems that are currently offered in the market.
The Chief Financial Officer of Sega Roger Pennington commented on the company’s plans and the partnership agreement with Intercard in an interview for InterGame, saying that the company already had around 500 pieces of equipment located around the territory of Europe. However, he emphasized on the fact that it would be completely different this time, as the planned venue at Hatfield would be the first complete Family Entertainment Centre of the company.
