GVC Holdings has officially announced that the Group had been granted with “a full and permanent” license for its casino games and sports betting operations in Romania. The Romanian National Gaming Office (ONJN) has granted the company’s subsidiary Headlong Limited with the permission to help GVC run its operations in the country for a period of ten years.
The new license is to come in to effect on September 1st.
Moreover, GVC Holding has received a Class 2 license which gives it the right to provide a number of its services, including software, affiliate marketing and hosting operations to its fully-owned affiliate Headlong.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Group Kenneth Alexander commented on the license that has been recently granted by the Romanian National Gaming Office, saying that everyone at the company were very glad about it. According to Mr. Alexander, Romania turned into an attractive and constantly expanding market at which customers had a pretty good disposition to GVC’s Sportingbet brand.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer added that the permanent license awarded to the Group in the country would give them the chance to remain focused on expanding their reach and developing their product line in Romania as the company would like to attract more customers and boost its operations.
The Isle of Man-based Group is among the leading online gaming operators in the business-to-consumer and business-to-business markets. Currently, the company features a total of four key products niches and several brands – casino, poker, sports betting and bingo operations.
Mergers and acquisitions policy has also recently been one of the priorities of GVC Holdings, which acquired bwin.party at the beginning of February this year. Currently, the company holds licenses in a number of countries, including the UK, the US, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Alderney, Greece, Italy, Malta, Gibraltar, Romania, Bulgaria and Eire. Its services are operated through licensed partner arrangements on the territory of Belgium and South Africa.
Further expansion has been one of the main aims of the Group, so the license granted by the Romanian National Gaming Office has come as part of this strategy.
Before getting the ten-year license to operate the full range of their operations in Romania, GVC Holdings has set its Sportingbet brand in the country under the terms of an interim license. The latter was awarded to the company on September 1st, 2015.
